Idita-ready

The wine is open, the bets have been placed and the checkpoint is set. Now all we need are some dog teams.

Today, under a cloudless sky we set up the Iditarod checkpoint. We alphabetised the mushers resupply bags for easy pick up, laid out hay and heet in each dog sled parking location, hung up banners all around the lodge and cut a hole in the ice so the mushers can get water from the lake for their dogs.

The anticipation is building. We have guests in every cabin who range in origin from Georgia to Norway and at least 5 planes parked on the lake for the night. Everyone is here for the same reason; to see these amazing dogs run from Willow to Nome. Tomorrow the first of the teams will arrive and with it marks the beginning of an amazing few days for guests and staff alike here at Rainy Pass Lodge.
